Who Attended?
This training, held in Perth, November 2014, was relevant for health care professionals who encounter capacity- related issues pertaining to treatment consent, end of life, sexuality, guardianship and financial decision making in their everyday clinical work. This includes general practitioners, psychologists, neurologists, social workers, geriatricians, psychiatrists, registered nurses, clinical nurse educators and clinical nurse consultants, occupational therapists, ACAT workers.
What we covered?
This day-long session reviewed the general principles of capacity assessment (the “Ten Commandments of Capacity”) the relevant legal tests as defined by the Guardianship & Administration Act 1990 (WA) and provided a guide to assessment and report writing. Practical case examples were used to illustrate the principles and resources including the Western Australian Mini-legal kit Series 1.6 and relevant scientific literature were provided.
